I am writing in support of Jeff Backer, Jr., Senate candidate for Minnesota Senate District 9. I have met Jeff and believe that he has the ability, interest, and personality to represent the district very positively. Jeff understands the geographical area of the entire district and has proven leadership in the work that he has done as mayor of Brown’s Valley. A major issue there, with which he has successfully dealt, is that of flooding.

I believe that Jeff is a very practical individual and that he will view legislative issues from a broad perspective and will consider what is in the best interest of the public, not just what is best for one particular “party.”

Jeff is a small business owner, is approachable, meets others well, and has an interest in all people. His dedication to being elected as the district’s next State Senator is evident in the energy and time that he has projected while campaigning the past several months. He has personally knocked on hundreds of doors through District 9 in an effort to meet residents. He has also had a strong presence in a multitude of parades and other community events and has maintained a very active and updated web site.

One characteristic that I especially appreciate about Jeff is that, although he takes his work seriously, he also has a great sense of humor. For example, with his twin brother vying for the Minnesota House of Representatives from the Brown’s Valley area, Jeff and he have referred to themselves as “The Minnesota Twins.” I encourage you to vote for Jeff Backer, Jr. on Nov. 2, for Minnesota Senate District 9. — Douglas Sillers, Moorhead
